Hi All

Was just reading the ABT article on QF benefits when flying Air NZ

It seems you can only access lounge on code share trans Tasman flights.

Is there any priveleges on AKL-SFO flights? Assume again it would have to be a code share

No. The code-share and benefits only applies to trans-Tasman (plus connecting Australia or NZ domestic).

Thanks for quick reply

As I thought, but can live in hope!

NZ have some pretty decent PE fares to LAX and SFO from MEL via AKL

The deal only applies to domestic flights in NZ and AU when connecting to a trans tasman flight.
It allows QF trans tasman pax to connect to a QF coded NZ domestic flight and NZ trans tasman pax to connect to a NZ coded QF domestic flight.

No lounge access, but if you do want to gain a bit from flying (Air)NZ while in premY, would be to either join or put in your SQ KF FF account #, and then transfer those points to VFF.
No pay per entry into the Koru, but the Strata lounge entry is payable on single entry fee, not sure how much it is these days.
PremY/WorksDeluxe in itself also doesn't allow entry into Koru, they stopped that a while before the divorce between VFF and (Air)NZ.
You can't pay to enter the Koru.
Only way is to fly J class on (Air)NZ or be a Koru member.

If you have QF status, you could get a United status match and gain Star Alliance benefits ahead of your trip on Air New Zealand ;)

United Status Match: Enjoy Star Alliance Status for 90 Days

You'd get Star Alliance Gold for 3 months. You could then either let it lapse, or do some flying on UA once you're in the US to keep it alive for longer.

Thanks for the last tip, did the UA challenge 12 months ago for a round the world which included 4 LH sectors. Worked a treat including fast track for whole family at Heathrow.

Did not realise at time I needed UA flights for challenge....

To be clear, Qantas and Air NZ are fierce competitors and will never codeshare on international flights like these. The domestic deal is mutually beneficial and not a matter of competition.
