They're raising their Fuel Surcharges not the fare itself, though for paying pax its one and the same.

TG, do you have any other references to this? From the article it suggested that NZ were raising fares (not specifically referring to surcharges), which would be a good thing. On the other hand it did indicate that QF were looking at increasing surcharges again

But then again with the structure of the NZ airpoints program, it really doesn't make that much of a difference to an average person redeeming points whether the fare increases or whether the surcharge increase. With QF it makes a huge difference.

Yes, received an email from Air NZ this morning (I own an agency) which indicated they are fuel fine increased rather than fare increases.

So the news article is wrong?

They are increasing fuel surcharges again and not the airfare? It is the same end result for the passenger but makes the airline look good with lower lead in prices.

Wouldn't be the first time, and certainly won't be the last something incorrect is reported in the media.

Although aren't people beginning to see through all the fuel fine increases? Low lead in fares are effectively now meaningless. How long before we start seeining "capital cost surcharges" here in Australia, just because "interest rates have risen" (albeit locally)??
