Air NZ cancels MEL CHC 30 Jan flight

Family due to fly Mel to Chch at 9am in the morning, text to say flight is cancelled….they were already asleep with transport etc all arranged very early.
There’s a 6.25pm flight so we are hoping it’s a replacement and all passengers can be put on that. A particular reason they need to be in chch…. but I wonder when they will be informed, by whom. Elderly and already under stress.

Tried phoning (or at the airport now)?
NZ214 is a regular scheduled departure. Not a special replacement for NZ212
As well as NZ214 18:25 may be QF133 09:10 & a JQ mid night departure
Or via WLG or SYD. Guess AKL to be avoided for a few days

Probably for the best.

They appear to be in a terrible situation over there at present. I can imagine the flow on effects will persist for some time, with aircraft and crews out of position.

Thanks. Everyone has a reason for needing or wanting to go, in this case a police matter and just very sad the travel has meant something very important to the people won’t now happen. But weather happens, no blame there and plenty of poor Aucklanders affected badly.

Travel was tricky enough without the huge storms.

What was offered? Limited flights MEL to CHC
Hope the family situation works out OK.

Sending one on one flight, the other tomorrow…. none direct. They are too frail to do it, given the sensitivity of the reason.

Thank you for your info and concern. Life happens, just such a pity it had to be today in this situation.
