I think this is new (at least, I haven't noticed it previously), but PX have introduced a J upgrade bid for international flights.
It sounds a lot like the VA UpgradeMe process. Book an economy fare and log into "manage booking" and click on the PX Plus tab to submit an upgrade bid between a predetermined min and max amount via a slider bar with visual indication of bid strength and finally add credit card details. The bid is for all pax on the PNR and each sector is bid separately.
Notification of acceptance between 48 and 24 hours pre-flight and card is only debited if successful. Bid can be withdrawn up until deadline time of 2 days prior. Usual story, all J perks included but tix rules remain as per original issued tix (including FFer miles).
May be of interest to some on here. I'll no doubt give it a go next time I fly PX.
