My parents (both 80) are flying Bus Class to USA with Air New Zealand (from Adelaide). They have joined ANZ FF program, and offered me the points. But I am a Platinum Velocity. Should I get them to join Velocity? Or collect the points with ANZ and transfer them?

My mother is also flying to Hong Kong in December with Cathay (premium economy). They partner with ANZ, but not Velocity.

Can anyone advise on the best way to maximise the points that will be collected with these two trips?

It is unlikely that my parents will travel again.

Definitely to Velocity - I believe only NZ residents can combine or transfer NZ Airpoints.

Also note that Airpoints can only be earnt on CX flights between AKL and HKG.

You cannot transfer points between Velocity and NZ.

If you are VA Plat, and they are unlikely to travel again, suggest they join Velocity and then either family pool to you ( if eligible) or family transfer the points after travel from them to you .

As for the CX points.... may be look at joining them to QF , then they could may be get a voucher with the points
