Does anyone know what the Air Luxor A320 charter aircraft is doing in SYD? It seems to stand for days at a time near the heavy maintainence hangers on a regular basis. On a recent day of plane-nerding I watched it get tugged over to the International Terminal, held near the gates for about 10 minutes, then back over to the HM parking area.
I've never seen it (or them - I've not checked rego to confirm it actually is just the one aircraft) in the hangers, nor have I seen it arriving or departing.
Any theories?

Are you sure it was an A320? There has been an Air Luxor A330 operating some ADF charter work for a few months now and it is regularly parked where you noted in SYD.

Aaah yes, the A330 is a twin too, isn't it? Finally: proof for Mrs SFU that I'm not THAT much of a plane nerd.
It makes sense that it's an ADF charter, but I didn't think we had that many personnel posted in any one location to warrant such a large aircraft.
Whatever happened to the days when all ADF personnel movements where in the back of a cold, noisy C130?

Air Luxor actually have HYA and HYB in service, both A320s, as well as two A330s, regos TQG and TQH are the ex Ansett craft. I would suspect it is an A330, longer legs for trips such as the one suggested.

Ah... I wondered what that plane was when I drove past last week (along Qantas drive). I was trying to keep my eyes on the road and thought from the size that it was a 767. It's definitely a bigger aircraft (i.e. than an A320) so I assume an A330.

I'd say it would be for the personnel changeovers for Op Catalyst (ie, the sandpit). The troops are on 6 month rotations.

As an ex-RAAFie, I'm glad those C130 days are over. The memories of the five hour flight each way from Williamtown to Darwin and return for KANGAROO 89 are still vivid

When I was in Darwin at then end of August & again at end of September, it was sitting at the gate there, so the ADF charter makes a lot of sense.

Does not seem to be an option for Air Luxor when doing a search of the airport website for international departures, however Santa Claus was listed, what is his IATA classification/code :D

Santa flies economy - thats the only thing available to Rovaneimi. Odd place it is too.
