Taking back what was originally theirs.

Private operators tend to do fairly well in India - anyone remember how good Jet Airways were? or Kingfisher even?

But I think Air India has way too much baggage. Anything other than a completely clean start (maybe this is the strategy in stages?) will still have the old stench.
I am not sure how using examples of two airlines which went bankrupt in a thriving and enormous market, is one Tata would like to emulate.

Having been a customer of Air India for the best part of 50 years I’m sad to see the old livery go.

It was iconic.

Airlines moving to an all white background with a splash of colour on the tail and logo is… boring?

I can honestly say I have never been disappointed in an Air India experience. Not saying my expectations have ever been high. But they have always delivered the basics.
Air India both domestically and internationally has been abysmal, for over a decade, from my POV. Inflight services, ground handling, management capability, oh and don't forget the woeful website and loyalty program! It can only be better and really, worrying about the colour of the plane and logo? Let's move on to substance please.

In-flight services... Champagne is chilled, food tasty, flat beds, pajamas. No bells and whistles, but I didn't expect any. Domestic, fine ... wide seats, hot meal. Lounges passable. No expectations otherwise. I'm not a member of their FF program.

But, if they fly where I want to go, at the right time, price and hard-product, I don't have a reason not to fly them.

We flew Air India in J, LHR-MEL. No complaints about the flight but the chaos during the transit in New Delhi was atrocious. Changing the paint won't cover it😩

Gosh - can't agree more. I transited through DEL earlier this year - thankfully connecting to Air India, so only had to wait 2-3 hours in the transit holding pen. The lounge was not great either.

I get that the transit situation at Indian airports is probably not something Air India can do much about.

If DEL is your final destination and you want a non-stop flight, AI would be quite acceptable IMHO.

It was in reference to the quality of their service. Perhaps that's why the business model didn't work! But that was also when the market wasn't as big as it is now either.

I think that "chaos" applies to all airlines at Delhi?

I think that ‘chaos’ applies to everything, everywhere, in India. ☺️

Although there might be a temple on a mountain somewhere where one can sit in relative peace for a brief period…

Exactly! I was going to say the same thing.

We might think DEL transit is chaos, coming from Australia. But if you’ve just been in India for a while it’s relatively calm!

Plenty of airports have ‘chaotic’ transfers… Bangkok, Seoul, Amsterdam, Charles De Gaulle, even Frankfurt and Heathrow. Arrive at the wrong time and you’d want to give most of them a miss.

Sheesh, you don't have to go that far. Arrive at MEL (T2/ international) at 8:30pm and if you took a photo of what unfolds between immigration and customs/quarantine control at that time, you could take that photo and insert it in a pictorial dictionary under the word chaos.

My favourite and Indian airports is the security check. Every single person will buzz as they go through the metal detector. Then a bloke stands you on a little stool and uses the hand wand. It buzzes for every single person. After doing this for about a minute you get waived through. It has to be all for show.
