Air Canada has announced changes to its ‘Altitude’ program for 2015 earning, affecting status and ‘privileges’ in 2016. Note that the FF program is actually‘Aeroplan’, which was spun off years ago and is now a general points program and loathed by Air Canada flyers. As a reaction, AC started ‘Altitude’ a year or so ago as an attempt to claw back some control. It runs in parallel, or interlocked with Aeroplan. Its a strange arrangement.

Status is earned by miles or segments flown (25,000 miles or 25 segments, then 35K, 50K, 75K or 100K; 50K gets you Star Gold).

The biggest change is that from 2015 for 2016 qualifying, there
will be a requirement to fly a minimumof 50% of the miles or segments on Air Canada to earn that status.

Other than that, overall these changes mostly affect lower status members (below 50K or Star Gold level) but there is a chipping away at entitlements (ACcalls them ‘privileges’) for higher status pax too.

The 500 miles minimum earn is being abolished. Actual miles earned (distance x fare factor)will be the number.A Tango fare on aflight of 250 miles will earn 25% x 250 = 63 miles

Upgrades, earned by using eUpgrade certificates will becomemore expensive AND the number of eUpgrade Certificates earned at various thresholds will decrease.

Premium Economy will be accessible using eUpgrade certificates.

Priority boarding will be ‘streamlined’ (!)

Access to Preferred Seats improved for some

Fuel surcharges on Classic Flight Rewards within Canada andUS abolished J

35K members lose access to international Maple Leaf Lounges, except LGA and LAX

Priority Rewards reservations now limited to 10 per member per year

Makes all the QFF enhancements seem fairly mild in comparison.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
