In this post a week ago I outlined Air Canada's enhancements to its Altitude program, announced a week prior. There were a few plusses but mostly enhancements including abolition of its 500m mile minimum earn and imposition of a 50% minimum miles earned on Air Canada flights to count to status.

In a 'we have listed to feedback' update, they have brought in a 250 mile minimum earn and non Canadian residents will only have to fly Air Canada for 50% of the miles required under the new system, compared to Canadian residents. For instance, to reach the highest tier, 100K Super Elite (sort of P1 equivalent), Canadian residents will have to fly at least 50,000 miles on Air Canada. the rest of us will only have to fly 25,000 miles on Air Canada. :) Couple of other things as well.

What other airline would we like to actually listen to feedback and wind back enhancements. Hmmm ...?

Hardly Surprisingly, Air Canada has a reputation as having one of the world's poorest frequent flyer programs in terms of the value proposition to its members , so any enhancements to other parts of their business hardly comes as a surprise.

I'd have to agree with you re their FF program (Aeroplan) (although like QFF, its not too bad for long haul and higher status members); "Altitude" is sort of the same thing as Aeroplan, but has more 'in house' features. Its quite a bizarre arrangement, but began two years ago when AC's FFers got so pizzed off with Aeroplan, they had to start an in-house program to ameliorate the situation. Not totally successful!

Aeroplan also backtracked on the 7-year mile expiration a few years ago, but that reversal might have been pushed by the big banks seeing this as a devaluation of their premium credits cards.
