Air Canada awards on SQ seem to have increased

@MEL_Traveller @luxury-lizard Appreciate your advice on this. To give an update to this situation:
  • I did reach out to Singapore Airlines but they were quite firm that they could make no changes to the ticket and that the name should be changed prior to travel
  • I called Aeroplan and they informed me that they would have to cancel the ticket and then attempt to re-issue it based on availability
I agree with both of your suggestions that we could have looked at turning up to the airport with maiden name passport, especially as check-in staff often have additional abilities to make changes to the ticket, but we didn't think it was worth the risk if it didn't work out.

Based on the above I made the decision to book alternative travel down to Australia prior to cancelling the ticket so we weren't potentially left without a way home. After calling Aeroplan and cancelling the reward tickets I can confirm that, some 40 hours on now, they were never released back to any of the reward pools - Singapore Krisflyer, Velocity or Aeroplan. Travel is next week so there may be different results if you were doing this a lot longer out, but I would tread with caution any attempt to cancel to rebook.

Unfortunately that was to be expected :(

And highly unlikely in the current environment for any award seats to go back to award inventory… the airpines will be cleaning up with passengers coming off the ME3.
