Air Canada has sent out cheques for $5,000 to each passenger.
Although there is the usual deep cynicism, this to me sounds like a useful move by the airline. Its a meaningful amount of cash for re-booking, delays immediate 'compensation' etc and doesn't close off anything people want to do in addition.
