Air Berlin status match

There's no specific rule about needing AB number in booking but if you do encounter an overzealous lounge dragon It's really very simple.

1. Plug in PNR and Name on Finnair.com
2. Change FF number to AB number
3. Print BP
4. Once in lounge, repeat step 2 but changing back to QF number.

You could also phone up QF and ask for your AB number to be placed as FQTS (status recognition) and for your QF number to be FQTV (where the miles will credit to).

I can see it irritating some lounge staff who have an attitude of 'you're scamming your way in here' but I guess QF would be happy as it would actually make money for then because they could charge AB for the access rather than wearing it themselves

Finnair doesn't work for me and RJ has been giving me this error message lately:

The final suggestion, to phone QF, requires diligence. Far too often QF agents simply add my alternate number to a different field, rather than removing my QF number completely.

I've done similar with A3 & SQ status on AirNZ. A few times I just flash the gold card at check-in for the bag tags, tell them to credit SQ and they do. At the lounge they query it but let me in. The girl in AKL once asked if I wanted to switch but I said no so she smiled and processed me through.

I don't see how QF would be any diff in this situation, I'll be trying it every single time as a QFS

It's fairly plausible that someone would have status in a *O program and be looking to build status with QF, but still wanting to use their OWS perks while they do so. It'd be fairly ridiculous if they did constantly make you change.

Yes excatly. I feel the dragons are going to be too busy soon critiquing peoples dress standards to bother making a huff about which program is being used or credited.

Gosh AB is an interesting program. It is the only FF program in the world to allow you to earn and burn miles on both QF and VA. There are limited non-flying earning opportunities but its something to consider if you fly both QF and VA but not enough to earn decent status on either.

They use a region based award chart - anywhere in AU/NZ/Pacific is 40k return in Y, 80k return in J. Certainly not good value for short hops but if you were looking at going somewhere like PER-APW and were only flying QF but wanted to redeem on VA its an interesting option.

I never thought I'd be able to miles earnt flying VA to redeem on QF flights!

Applied for match 36 hrs ago with my EY gold ( which was also matched last year to QF gold) came through today!!

Not really sure why I did it...but another golden ticket to the collection!

Been thinking about this and decided not to pull the trigger ... I'm keeping my powder dry.

Colour me confused ?
What is the connection between *A Gold on TK and OWS or do you mean something different ?

I'm a newbie with status matches. I assumed TK got you VA access - is VA that useless that *G gets you nothing?

TK won't get you VA Lounge access.
This card will. Of course if you have an Amex Plat Charge card then you won't need the AB Gold card.

And now I'm confusing myself :p

VA is not part of Star Alliance so nope it won't give you anything for VA.

VA the perfect solution for a Dom traveller. Luckily I have a few AMEX cards that will get access if I ever decide to leave QF.

Decisions. I no longer have VA status, not living here.. the only VA flights I'll take are J redemptions or the free Amex flight. If I flew EY then it wouldn't be in Y, so really it's just for the sake of one or two flights VA flights.. if there is a lounge. Meanwhile I do fly AB a bit but don't think I'd pick their 'exclusive waiting areas' over the BA/AF lounge in TXL or that lounge with the mirror walls in VIE. So why am I still tempted to status match, please convince me not to! how many elite oneworld statues should one have anyway? :)

The alternate way to look at it is what is stopping me to apply for it again if I've earned elite status with multiple companies and have addresses in multiple countries...

i wouldn't bother -- just another bit of plastic to add to the pile. I status matched during the last Etihad offer and haven't used it once. If you had a need or a good reason, sure...
