My daughter is travelling from the UK with a infant and has a 7 hour layover in KUL before her AirAsiaX flight to OOL ,

They are flying Premium class and she was planning to check into the Sama Sama Express short term hotel for 6 hours ,
but I have read you can only check your bags onto the OOL flight 3 hours before departure .

Can anyone confirm how early she can check in ? and is there any alternatives she could use if she is stuck in the landside with baggage ?

Thanks

I had a similar long layover in KUL a couple of months ago, flying onwards to Australia in Premium Flatbed class. I was only able to check-in 3 hours before departure.

Thanks for the reply , what did you end up doing while you waited for check in to open ? Is there a landside lounge you can use ?

Thanks

There wasn't a landside lounge at KLIA2 that I could find unfortunately, but there were plenty of restaurants etc. I ended up hanging around at the McDonalds, which has a great outdoor seating area for planespotters where you can watch the planes taking off from.

In future, if I was waiting any more than about 3 hours I would head into the city on the Express train (it costs around $30-35 return) and have dinner near KL Sentral station.

It appears that there is a landside lounge at KLIA2, which I am planning to visit using my Diners Club card next month. Here's an excerpt from their promo...

Had a similar layolver a few months back. Flying premium and they let me check the bags in ab out 6 hours early. Maybe depends on the checkin staff but no harm in trying....

Where is she flying in from and on what airline? I assume its not air asia- as they do have a "fly-through" option which allows bags to be checked through at first leg. If she isnt on air asia- i would assume she is actually landing at KLIA - not KLIA2..Change of airport is required on shuttle buses that run between the two terminals- takes about 30-45 mins (can be quicker but bus waits until it is nearly full to leave)

She is flying BA in premium economy so no lounge access in KLIA ..

I will get her to try a early check in at the Air Asia desk in KLIA2 , maybe having a baby with her might
help !!!

I would suggest that she takes her time getting out of KLIA. Its a much nicer airport with much nicer facilities- esp baby change ones. Make way over to KLIA2 just a couple of hours in advance of flight.

There are paid lounges at both airports. Pictures are deceptive though- nowhere near as nice as depicted and very full. Free access for diners club holders or amex platinum members.

Good luck!
