While sifting through my daily read of the Fin Review this morning, I noticed an ad for an 'exclusive introductory offer using your Frequent Flyer points'.

https://store.qantas.com/Catalogue.a2?Page=ViewProduct&ProductId=123397

Assuming you were to buy the paper every day like me and considering the daily paper is now $3.30 (recently gone up from $3.00), you're looking at $19.80 per week (6 x $3.30 - Weekend review is the same paper for Sat/Sun). Over a month, that's $85.80. Over 6 months that $515!

With the current promo special using points + cash special over 6 months, I can use 12,150 points (which I value at ~$150) + $62.37, so roughly $212 in total. I will claim the cash portion as a 100% fully tax deductible item relating to investments etc etc.

So excluding the tax benefits which will vary for everyone's marginal tax rate, that's a saving of $300 over 6 months. And its on my iPad which doesn't take up the entire cafe table while doing brekky and coffee! Happy days.

First thing I've ever seen that's been worthwhile on the QFF store

Interestingly, it's just as the free one year AFR weekend subscription for VA platinums wears off (that offer was sent around April last year).
