Forums cost money to host. The more people that use it, the more it costs in terms of bandwidth, hosting costs, development and support.

If you do not like the Ads, you can purchase a membership (Silver or Gold). Silver will eliminate your Ads, Gold will eliminate your ads and open you to a heap of discounts courtesy of admin :)

I actually purchased a membership as I disliked all the ads. But, that said, you have access to all the forums without paying.

admin has to pay his bills too ya know ;)

You could always have a look at Gold AFF membership. There are quite a few little niceties including No Advertisements

Yes its a forum, but like most websites its a commercial enterprise, do you think the guys at Facebook do it for fun?

Facebook is a company unto itself though. Most forums are not (there are plenty that are though).

Facebook is a social networking site:) I know of many forums that start off as a hobby and end up as a business though. If your membership is large enough, you can generate revenue, but it's not a cake walk. I'd not be in it for anything :) Kudos to whoever can though

I'd be surprised if he doesn't, but I guess he's the only person who can give a definitive answer for you! :)

I'd say he has a day job. AFF is sizeable, but not as big as some sites out there, so don't think the profit would be enough to live on, enough to reinvest into the site though to make it better! IMHO

Also, bear in mind alot of ads may not pay unless you click on them. I run a few tech websites, software including the forum software we are using to post - even that costs money! Nobody can answer except admin :)

True, though you'd think there'd be some incentive to make them bigger (aside from making it hard to get past without clicking it). That new QF one is a monster!

Ah the joys of gold membership...no ads:!:

I joined after a while (maybe too long) to get rid of the ads and it makes the use of the forum so much better.

Good to see that the site is up and running again, after some downtime this morning.
