A flight I often take. Last a month ago. Flight arrives early more often than on time or late.
With pre flight lounge access I usally do not eat the meals offered on the flight.
The 2 lakes are I think Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki. With no clouds usally a good view of Mt Cook/Aoraki [3,724 metres 12,218 feet]. Or at times the peak above clouds.

Airport Experience​

There wasn’t much of a queue to check-in when I arrived at Melbourne Airport at 5am and I was promptly checked in with a smile. The staff member made sure I had applied for a New Zealand Traveller Pass. (This is still a requirement for travel to New Zealand, even though most other COVID-19 restrictions have been removed by the New Zealand government.)

Recently did a similar trip with the family, BNE-SYD-ZQN - QF503+QF121 - on the way over and ZQN-BNE (NZ261) on the way back.

Costs approx $540pp and $400pp respectively.

I can't do a similarly comprehensive review, but the NZ Air flight was the hands-down winner. Admittedly I was a bit grumpy on the QF flights because of the 4:00am start and missing several hundred dollars of TRS refund thanks to long customs lines @ SYD, but the NZ flight didn't get off to a good start either with the self-bag-tagging (which I hate) and dismal options for eating/drinking at ZQN departures. However, they had much better food (not especially important to me) and extra legroom with an empty seat in each row (very important to me) with the worksdeluxe fare.
