Advise pls, incorrect name ticketed

Can I have some advise how to tackle U.S. over an incorrect middle name on booking pls.

Friend has ticketed 2 seats rtn to US with CX J , booking shows First Name = Michael , Middle name = Michael... The person has no middle name at all, not sure how this come about. Phoned CX and they said U.S. MUST change it to reflect passport or he may not be able to travel. Phoned US and they say it's no problem no need to fix.

Opinions or suggestions pls :) TIA
 
HUCA - simply call back again and say you want it fixed.

When I book QF domestic flights with USDM I now ask that they don't put in a middle name at all - as it confuses when I try to link it to my QF account
 
Had a similar (if not the same) issue in the old us * days. They misspelled my middle name and would not change it. I got the carriers (ua and tg) to make a note on their pnr beforehand, and never had an issue. However, in my case we are talking 1 letter out, rather than a whole name.
U.S. explained their reluctance as it requiring a complete cancellation and rebuild of the itinerary, and they were worried about lost availability. If you are confident on that, I would insist on changing just for peace of mind.
 
I'll also add - I had US change my surname yesterday as they had misspelt it (Not sure how as they simply transferred data from my USDM account)

AFAIK the US security agencies work off the information on your passport, not the ticket. At check-in your passport is scanned, and those details are the ones sent for authorisation to fly.

I travel equally with and without my middle name (ie different to passport) and it makes no difference for the USA.

Not by over the phone, nor email via the account. My friend went through the complaints section on email which was the best resolution.

We’ve documented the reservation with the correct name (no middle name) for your husband. We don’t reissue tickets for an incorrect middle name as doing so on other airline operated flights will cancel the reservation for the passenger. We've sent a message to Cathay Pacific that passenger has no middle name. We've also changed the information for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) so they will have the correct name at the security check point, regardless what the ticket shows. However, please arrive early at the airport and present the proper ID/passport to the ticket counter to see if any changes are needed before your husband proceed to the security check point. Only Cathay Pacific agent at the ticket counter will be able to make a name change if needed after confirming the correct name on the passport. In most cases, there will be no need to correct the name on the ticket if the correct information is sent to TSA, but again, this will be a decision of the Cathay Pacific agent at the ticket counter
