Afternoon all,
I am not a frequent poster despite having been a member for years.
I am a long time plat with QF and a lifetime Gold having joined the program 10 years ago when I relocated to Australia.
In August 2019 I bought a J return CDG-MEL (Via LHR and SIN; out form Paris on 15th January 2020 and out of Melbourne on 10th May 2020), the flight was booked in the D fare bucket. I originally paid for the flight with a Visa but made changes to the outbound date and paid the fare difference with an AMEX (relevant later).
Obviously the fly back to Europe was cancelled because of COVID. Fast forward to May 2022, I need to use the return portion of the flight.
After multiple calls, QF tells me it's not possible anymore because fare rules have changed so much and that they would refund me 1/2 of the fare paid.
After a further number of calls, and them checking whether I still had the AMEX for the refund, the refund was finally processed today. The email I received to informed me of the refund was processed to a the VISA card I used to purchased the ticket. Card that I canceled 2 years ago when I refinanced my mortgage...
Now, I had another few frustrating calls with QF informing me that I will not get my refund unless I provide them with a letter from the bank that issued the card I used to purchase the ticket stating that I din't have that card anymore and a letter from my current back. After more than 2 years I cannot see that a bank that doesn't have my business is going to issue me such letter.
Are there really no other options as QF keeps telling me to get my refund?
Happy to receive any advice as I am growing increasingly frustrated.
