Advice on name change sequence

I've read this but figured as situation is tad different for mine: Change of legal name - Qantas

Wife currently has got a Qatar flight booked for travel in Feb-26 under her current name. She's also due to change passport in October, and would then her Last name to mine. We are currently looking at redemptions for Oct-26 so need to book soon. Would I be right to say that the sequence below is correct:

-Qatar flight to be left as is.
-Do the name change now on Qantas app/website to update QFF details. Sending in Marriage certificate.
-Once confirmed done, can book the redemption seats. Would be issued with new name
-Sometime after completing Qatar leg, organise passport renewal + name change
-Oct-26 comes all is good?

Is the above a sound approach?

Thanks!

Are you hoping to earn any points from the Qatar booking? If so, your FF profile will need to match the ticket.

Otherwise you could proceed as you’ve indicated.

You can still book the October ticket in the new name, and update the FF profile at a later time.

Presumably you want both tickets in October to come out of the same account so they are on the one booking/PNR. If that’s the case, no reason why you can’t select the married name now and ticket it as such, even without the profile being updated.

Thanks for the advice @MEL_Traveller . It never occurred to me that during the redemption booking, I could already do the name change as I book. Not having to wait for the QFF name to be changed.
I guess its the same if she gave me her points to my account, and I book mine and hers (as a passenger) where I can dictate what her name will be on the E-ticket/PNR.

That’s what I was thinking… she transfers to you, you book both. That way they’re both on the same booking reference.

It will ask you for the relationship of the person you are redeeming for and you select ‘spouse’ (or whatever it is). Which is perfectly correct.
