Hey!

I currently have an itinerary:
- SYD -> WAW (EK, First)
- WAW -> SYD (BA, Economy)

Booked as classic rewards with QFF points with Qantas directly (no agents).

I'm hoping to churn a few more cards this year, which should give me enough points for the return leg to be at least in Business (with EK ideally).

The logistics of rebooking this are concerning me a bit. Has anyone done similar gymnastics previously?

Is something Qantas could help with over the phone, or would I need to cancel my existing trip, wait for the points/tax refund, and then attempt a new booking?

Cheers

You should be able to do that over the phone easily, assuming there are some award availability in J for your return leg: check first before calling.

If you cancel your trip, your points might take anytime between a few hours to a few weeks to come back, and your current award seat in First will likely vanish.

Depending on when you’re travelling, there are also J reward options out there on BA, CX, JL and QR. Although, apart from QR, they’ll be two stops from WAW (which I assume you have on BA already). But you might still be able to slum it to LHR in BA whY but connect to another airline for the longhauls home. If all on the one booking, you’ll have no drama with luggage checked through.

AA.com (USA website) is useful for checking Oneworld award seat availability. If you can replicate that on QF using the multi-city booking search - have a copy of that when you call QF to change flights.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This might be of use also:

I was a little surprised (and I suspect some others here would be also) of the high praise QF gets!

Here‘s another:

Both articles (and others here) talkup ExpertFlyer. Since you‘re after F/J, it could be worth the coin if you’re not seeing anything else that looks reasonable.
