Hi fellow travellers,

Hoping for some advice, please.

I’m travelling BNE - LHR on CX in October and now want to book London - Glasgow return flights.

I note on the BA website there are various tiers of travel. One is hand luggage only and another has 1 x 23kg luggage allowance.

My question is - does my QF lifetime gold luggage allowance override the limits imposed by BA on either of those tickets? (I will need my full QF gold luggage allowance for the return journey).

Also, what is the best way to book these tickets as it’s not possible via the QF site.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers & safe travels.

JM

Your QFF status should give you OW status, which should be recognised by BA (once you add QFF details to the booking).
Maybe check the BA luggage allowance on the BA website.

Best and easiest place to book BA fares, at least for short haul, is via their website. You won’t be able to add the domestic flights to your existing ticket, so there’s no advantage to booking via the Qantas website.

Oneworld status does NOT override hand baggage only fares, however all other status benefits will continue to apply (advance seat selection, priority boarding). You can enter your qantas FF number at the time of making your booking.

The HLO fare will get no Oneworld status luggage allowance
You will get an additional 23 kg bag on the other fare
Both will come with other Oneworld benefits
I'd also advise booking via ba.com

The BA website actually suggests that (for Economy) on those other fares that are not HBO, as a Sapphire, you get 2 bags at 32kg - much more generous than the actual OW entitlement, which would be nothing at all.

My reading is that it is 2x23kg but no one bag can weigh more than 32kg

Edit:but on going back I think you are right and I'm wrong. It is also for everyone on the booking which could be very generous for a family trip

BA baggage allowance is generous for its actual weight/number of pieces and the availability for OW partners. Travelling in F you get 3x32kg as standard and then another 1x32kg on top if you're OWE. 128kgs, enough to take several kitchen sinks.

More than several sinks if they are small enough to fit the dimensions. Don't forget your hand luggage as well - would need to fit the dimensions, but your "laptop" bag can pack in 23kg of lead, as well as another 23kg in the other cabin bag.

So a WP in F could be carting 174kg in total - make that 2pax, then you had better be using a truck to get to the airport.

Just note that while your status gets you advance seat selection for free, you can’t do this via their website. You need to call them, their operators can see your status (if you’ve included your QF number in the booking) and will do it for you.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Works for me via BA's website! At least for QF silver/OW ruby. Bang on 7 days prior the seats become available for assignment free of charge.

With QF Gold or above you can call and do the seat selection when you have booked the flight. I did mine several months ahead at no charge.

i appreciate that, the point was that I don't need to call. The BA site recognises my OW status and automatically allows me to select seats for free at the appropriate time. This should, in theory, also apply to gold/platinum. (It always used to when I held those statuses.)
