Okay so my points are about to expire... 31st July :-(

I may have left this too late.

I am going away for the weekend (tomorrow) and I had the brillant idea of hiring a car to keep my points. But now I am wondering if I have left it too late and will have no recourse and will have wasted the car hire money (okay $150 so not much).

& then the effort of going out to the airport for said car...

And all this to keep points I was going to use to get me to Queenstown next winter (was unable to get time off this year) will the new points structure ruin this ability for me (I only have 20,00 pts)

Any thoughts??? (this forum is the only place who would understand my maddness!

Will buying any miles count towards the activity (say buy 1,000 for like $35) and extend your current extend points?

My research came up with, buying miles does not count towards "earning" or "using" miles

Buying miles resets the clock, see T&C

10 Any member who fails at any time to engage in account activity for a period of eighteen (18) consecutive months is subject to termination of such member's membership and/or forfeiture of all accrued mileage as of the last day of the 18th month. Activity includes (without limitation) earning flight miles on United or earning or redeeming miles with a MileagePlus partner (as defined in Rule 12), redeeming miles for award travel, buying miles or transferring miles.

Thank you!

Miles purchased :)

Half the price of renting the car and I don't have to traipse to SYD in the rain!

Truly want to say thank you again!

I am no longer a confident driver in the rain after a major accident and the rain yesterday was torrential at times.

I was very glad to not only be in a familiar car but my AWD as well.

A rental car would have not been an enjoyable experience for me!
