Hi All,

Wanting to tap into the collective hive mind for any general tips and advice for a trip we are aiming to book for around mid/end September (NSW school holidays) to October.

Trip Ideas
Passengers; 4 adutls, 1 child, 1 infant.
However, we will be split into two groups when travelling to & from Europe. Group 1 - 3 adults, 1 infant. Group 2 - 1 adult, 1 child.
Destination; Italy & Switzerland
Total length of trip; 3-4wks
Origin Port; SYD - but open to dept from MEL/ADL/BNE if it means a business seat.

Points Balance
VFF - 1.3m
AVIOS - 185k
KRIS - 220k
AMEX MR - 200k

Background & Intent
My partner and will have our new born infant (will be 5/6 months in Sept) and aim to travel before it can move around.

My mother who hasnt travelled much at all in her life (75) will be coming and i want to book business for us all to and from Europe as an experience for her.

Aiming to spend approx 2-3wks in Italy, targetting 2 or 3 cities and staying for a week or so due to having a newborn and using it as base of opertaions. Open to hiring a car/van to cart everyone around so we can do day trips, and have all the subsequent gear/prams/baby items etc on hand. We have a few cities in mind. Then travel to Switzerland (open to suggestions on where) for approx 1wk & then to fly home.

Looking at booking reward flights, i need 3 adult reward tickets and a infant (doesnt really matter as it's a free ticket essentially?). QATAR has some availability around this time, but only for 2 seats. They have great availability all round obviously for economy seats when in DOH for us to then jumping over to Italy/Switz.

SINGAPORE has some availability for 3 people which is encouraging, but very few flights all the way through from SYD to Europe. We can get to SIN fairly easily but then may need to wait a few days to find a flight departing from SIN to Italy/Switz.

Ports into Europe that ive been looking at are; LHR, FLC, LIN, MUC, GVA, ZRH.

Anyone have any general advice on this trip idea, and best options for booking the above please? Been looking mostly to book via Virgin due to the larger points balance. If i do find that SINGAPORE is the best option to get us there, i would book a leg or two driectly with KRIS as my 220k points expire in June.

Thanks in advcance for any tips.

I spent almost two weeks in Switzerland in July last year.

I wrote about it with photos in this trip report. Switzerland starts at post 115.

Depending where you go, I recommend Trummelbach Falls, Schtilthorn, Big Thrill Walk and Rhine Falls.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
