A Singapore based airline buying an Australian airline, albeit a very small airline. Am I reading too much into this story?

Advent Air moves on Skywest shares

Singapore-based Advent Air Ltd through its subsidiary CaptiveVision Capital Ltd is bidding to acquire the balance of the shares in West Australian airline Skywest Ltd that it does not already own.

Advent Air, though CaptiveVision Capital, already holds 60.34 per cent of Skywest and has now made an off-market offer for the balance.

It is offering 0.4171 Advent shares and 0.227 cash for each Skywest share held.

So are you implying that we may see Skywest apply for an international AOC and then operate 747 or A380 aircraft on behalf of SQ with SQ codeshare trans-Pacific?

Not quite the way you phrased it but in the same ball park. The question that I can't answer is that would a budget Singapore based carrier be doing wanting to take over a regional airline in Western Australia?

One motive could be international flights but that may be difficult with the obstacles involved. Another motive could be trying to expand Skywest to the size of Qantaslink thereby providing SQ with a domestic partner here and possibly a low cost carrier similar to Tiger Airways feeding passengers to mainline SQ and possibly US routes.

Or I am reading too much into it!

or maybe they think they can make money flying around WA??
or maybe they plan to syphen off as much as they can and leave it for dead like NZ did to AN??

Advent's stated focus is on the development of regional airline services within the Asian region, and they appear to be wanting to do this via acquisition. Not sure what airlines in Asia they have in their sights

Skywest was one of the surviving bits from the Ansett empire

Advent Air: Ansett Indus Won't Proceed With Takeover

Edited Press Release

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Advent Air has been advised by Ansett Industries Ltd that it will not proceed with any takeover for Advent Air, further to the announcement on Oct. 18 2005.

end of story

Hmm... Speaking of survivor of the Ansett Empire

My understanding is that Skywest has a CAA operating certicate that allows them to operate anywhere in Oz. A valuable bit of paper.

Valuable indeed!

Aside from acquiring an AOC they'd also be getting landing slots, although presumably only in WA?
