I've started this thread due to several recent comments regarding Advantage + (as distinct from the A|club)

Hmmm, I gave Adv+ the @rse in May this year after 10 years of membership.

It had turned into a "discount" scheme where the discounts were not much different from that available without an annual membership. Up until 2006 it was really worthwhile.

As far as Hotels stays go, basically you paid for a night with your annual renewal.

I did not find the dining facet really useful - I may have used it once in the last three years of membership.

So it would be interesting to see what A|Club may offer.

I was planning on letting my adv+ run out, as I don't use it so much, but the A|club wasinteresting - Accor have hotels in lots of places.

Similar story Serfy - I gave A+ the flick last year after not finding any useful reasons for keeping it. The "free" night - well lets face it, the membership well and truley covers that. The thing I guess that done my head in was the 50% discount - based on RACK rates - BS, I proved to the Novotel at Homebush one afternoon that the 50% discount was more expensive than WOTIF (or was it last minute?) and pointed out it was a disgrace. The following year, I noticed that in the Terms it did say that they would beat any advertised price - little compensation though...

Dining discounts sometimes made up for it though, but it is infrequent that I eat at the same hotel I'm staying if taking customers out...

I dont think the new scheme interests me - even though I am a regular at Novotel hotels...

Mr!

...

I've been with Advantage Plus now for 7 years and have found their website in the last 6 - 12 months to be very beneficial as the special rates for members are significantly cheaper now. The old 50% off rack disappeared about 2 years ago. ...
G'day Vlad2567, welcome to AFF. :D

Yes the 50% did disappear; being replaced with a 15% off best 'unrestricted' rate - the catch was for me that Hot Deals were often cheaper! (but they are no longer eligible for Adv+ discount). This was not the case through most of my period of membership.

I last used my membership in November last year - it expired in May and I did not renew in spite of 3 or 4 calls from persistent sales staff.

Re: New budget hotel in SIN

It may pay to check your Advantage Club membership. Mine expires at the end of March.
Although I took advantage of the complimentary night whilst in Singapore last April, my details show that I still have a complimentary night owing. I mentioned this to friends at lunch yesterday who have been long time members and they say that this happens quite frequently, particularly when the stay is overseas.

If I rejoin before the end of March, I have been told that the complimentary night can be carried over, giving me two complimentary nights - in effect paying for next year's membership. I haven't tried to do this yet, but if you want to get the carry over, don't phone at weekends as the Saturday switch operator I contacted said that the supervisor who is able to approve the carry-over is only on duty during the week.

Can't say that I've found the Advantage Club card much use in Sydney. Tried to get the two for the price of one lunch at the Sofitel Wentworth but it only applied to the a la carte and not the lunch "special". Otherwise there's really only the renovated Novotel at Manly near to where I live or my friends tell me that the Summit is also included.

I assume you're talking about the Advantage+ program ?

I never had a situation where my free night was not deducted. Also never had an issue with rolling my free night over (although was a couple of years ago when I did that).

Maybe I should have tried using the free night overseas!

When I had an Adv+ membership, I used my free night in Hong Kong and upon logging on later it still showed I had 1 free night. I never tried to double redeem though so can't provide any insight on that

Did you use the e-certificate or did you need to go through the paper based certificate?

Last time when I was in sydney, they forgot to swipe my a+ card. Then after I checked out and came back to melb, they called me on the phone and requested that I send back my A+ card, so they can swipe it....

Of course I never did and no one chased up.... I believe since I got along very well with the general manager, I had a casual meeting with him during my stay and he asked various questions in regards to the new hotel renovation. So I assumed that he gave me the night for free?!

I am with you on this serfty, I pretty much let it lapse this year once I had all my nights taken care of. My biggest issue was that it is so limited to aust and asia and then there were some catches. I joined it after leaving Hilton prem club as I was getting more hotel options than with hilton. but now it doesn't pay me to be a member as I am based in Europe more than Aus and seem to have family and friends in the right locations.
I will find out what the Aclub is like i guess as at least its world wide.
