Please excuse me if this question has been answered before but whereas I am a frequent flyer, I've not travelled with QF for many years now.

As a result of VS stopping their SYD-HKG-SYD flights I've been put onto QF127/QF128 flights.

What I wanted to know was if travelling in Business class (I) and I want to reserve seats, am I required to pay for advanced seat allocation or do I get that for free? As can be deduced from my opening sentence, I do not have any QF status.

cheer.

Seat selection is complementary. If you've already booked go into manage your booking online or you can always call a CSR.

Happy flying

As davidj has noted J seat selection is complimentary although with no QF status your choices maybe restricted.

Still now is as good a time as any to start the slow climb up the levels.

Thanks.

What had given me doubts as to the need to pat was when I did go into manage my booking, the advanced seat allocation option indicated a cost starting from $A25. However, as I proceeded through the option and selected the seats it assigned to me just as you said complimentary and no charge.

Welcome back cssaus. :)

As others have already advised, Advance Seat Selection is complimentary for Business passengers.

It's also complimentary for Qantas operated Domestic flights and International First and Premium Economy cabins, in addition to tiered or equivalent oneworld Frequent Flyers.

Looking forward to hearing about your experience with us after "many years". See you on board soon.

Did VS move you onto QF at their expense? That's pretty good form!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes they did. Better still, for my wife who was travelling on a VS award ticket LHR-SYD, VS booked her into I class for the HKG-SYD sector. As I class is a revenue class I think she'll be able to earn QF miles.

Apart from maybe one or two domestic flights, the last time I flew international on QF was 18 years ago!

OT, but I'm sorry to hear that VS is cutting this route, I flew it with them a few times and the reward seats were quite good value.

It's fair to say - a lot has changed since then. ;)

I hope you have a chance to experience our Business Lounge and A380.

Please do let us know how you go.
