I thought the aircraft de-icers were built into the planes regardless. Do you mean that ADL airport doesn't have the machines? I wouldn't think that any Australian airports have these.

It would be pretty rare for ADL to freeze I'd imagine...

Also, the plane's de-icers are generally intended to prevent icing occurring during flight, rather than remove ice that has already accumulated on the ground.Some planes do have de-icers that divert heat from the engines to the leading edge of the wing and the air intake. But that only covers a small part of the plane.
