Which carrier would anyone recommend?
We need to be in Buenos Aires by Feb 1 2020 to pick up tour to Antarctica.
We return to B/Aires on Feb 17th.
We are looking to also visit Montevideo, Rio and the Iguazu falls either on arrival or after Antarctica.

From Adelaide do we say go to Singapore or to the middle east then to South America.
Or Adel to Auckland then on with Air New Zealand.

Any alternatives?

Any idea when specials maybe available?

Thanks.

The most direct alternatives would be Air New Zealand to BA via Auckland, or Qantas or LATAM to Santiago then LATAM onto BA.

Hi there WWTFC,

The Australia to South America route has seen dramatic decreases in average pricing over the past few years. I would not recommend going the "long ways" (either via the middle east of the USA) as this involves serious multiple-long-haul misery. In this age of point to point travel, doing either AKL-EZE or SYD/MEL - SCL are just simple one off long haul sectors. Staring from ADL you will still have a short tag-on flight at one or both ends, but this is definitely what I would recommend.

I am unsure what class you wish to travel, what status you have with QF, and how many points you have with them.

The Air New Zealand flights to EZE make it easy in that you fly out of a civilized departure point (yes, I include NZ in that!) and arrive directly in Buenos Aires. But hopping from Chile to Argentina is also easy.

QF fly direct SYD-SCL, whereas LATAM do either direct MEL-SCL, or SYD-AKL-SCL. Modern pricing for QF on their routes is amazing value - very frequent (every few months lately) specials where you can get to Chile for about $1000 in economy, about $2200-$2700 in Premium Economy, and somewhere between $4000 and $5000 in business. Really, really good value.

If you have some QF status, and a few points up your sleeve, then IMHO the best value is to buy a PE ticket and use points to upgrade to J :)

Christine and I have about 250,000 QFF points, 100,00 Velocity and minimal KF. So cant do much.

I'd be looking at Air New Zealand via Auckland. The connections don't get much better! You can credit the flights to KrisFlyer and earn some miles.

I'm sure there will be a sale at some point on flights to Argentina for your dates. If I were you, I would sign up now to the Air NZ sale notification emails for sales out of Australia.

H..... I would not recommend going the "long ways" (either via the middle east of the USA) as this involves serious multiple-long-haul misery. ....

Having done SYD-LAX-ATL-SCL, I didnt find it as misery except for the foot well on the Delta 1 overnight flight was annoying. Arrived tired, yes, but a nap, meal and night sleep fixed us up for the next 1st day.

For the OP, AirNZ was my first thought.
