THE growth in international airline flights through Adelaide Airport has reached unprecedented levels.

Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific has confirmed it will double its Adelaide services - from the present twice a week to four from June 1.

It follows Singapore Airlines increasing from four flights a week to a daily service two weeks ago - the same time Air New Zealand reintroduced Adelaide to its network, flying three times a week from Auckland.

Adelaide Airport now handles 26 international flights a week - increasing to 28 on June 1.

South Australian Tourism Alliance chairman Les Penley said it was "excellent news" that the airlines had enough confidence in SA to increase the number of services.

"However, the challenge will be to have sufficient marketing of SA as a destination to fill the seats of the flights coming in," Mr Penley said.

"And that will require an increase in marketing expenditure by the State Government."

The new Cathay Pacific flights will follow the schedule of its existing Sunday and Wednesday services for Adelaide Airport.

On Saturdays and Tuesdays, the Cathay Pacific flights will leave at 11am for Melbourne and Hong Kong, connecting to flights to European cities.

They will arrive in Adelaide non-stop from Hong Kong.

Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airline now files 747-400 aircraft into Adelaide instead of 777-200 aircraft.
Having flown twice to UK with Malaysia Airlines in the last year all flights to and from Adelaide have been full.
They have said on the Malaysia Airlines website that Adelaide is one of only 3 out of 10 Australia/Nz routes that is profitable for Malaysia Airlines.
With the great service that they offer it is no wonder you struggle to get seats out of Adelaide.
Fantastic airline.
It baffles me that Qantas have only 2 flights out of Adelaide but Singapore Airlines,Malaysia Airlines,Cathay Pacific and Air Nz have more flights than QF.
Not very Australian Qantas, I have no problem flying Malaysia Airlines as they offer better service than QF anyway.

Well....

We have international carriers wanting to increase services to ADL yet we are still regarding it as some backwater location not worthy of mention.

Like the joke says

Q: What's the best thing to come out of Adelaide?

A: Highway 1

or could now alter it to

A: Any of the numerous departing international flights

Malaysia Airlines

As an Adelaide boy for all of my 32 years I can say we are the but of jokes and rightly so, just look at the airport what a laughing stock we were and still are over that.
I know that when we left on dec 10 2005 to the UK, Malaysia Airlines was the only flight leaving the NEW airport and what happened?, the computer system broke down and we had to be manually checked in.
What a joke the airport is, oh and by the way how on earth do you get a car park at the new terminal??,another joke who designed the terminal and car park??.
I like the new terminal but reality kicks in when you try to use it.
Overall not a good thing for SA.

Three flights a week for QF and that will be direct from July!

What! No more stopover in DRW?

I will have to rethink my plans.

No more stopover in DRW as the SIN-DRW flight now continues to CNS as a result of the demise of Australian.

Wow! That is a little radical programming on the part of QF.

Oh well, anything to help Jetstar.

And don't forget that the current AO CNS-SIN flight will become QF CNS-DRW-SIN. So Darwin retains its direct Singapore service, but with 763. No doubt a better use of the A333 Skybeds for the non-stop ADL-SIN operations.

ADL-SIN is still only 3 days a week?
