With some USA travel still two months away I haven't actioned a change request from AC that come via Email. A LAS-YVR flight has changed by 4 hours. I am OK with the changes but

I'm thinking that by not yet accepting the change I have created an option to cancel for a refund an otherwise non-refundable ticket. The choice of available changes are also 3 days before or 3 days after my original fare so I could extend my travel without incurring any change fees.

Is this a viable strategy until a few days before travel just in case something in the world changes my plans.

Will depend on AC refund T+Cs, and noting if you dont accept and the flight oversells, you risk lose options currently available if alternative flights sell out.

IMO if you want the change, take it now (And risk losing the non-refundable ticket - a risk you’d already taken at purchase).

(Edit: appears 3hrs is their rule re: refund if changed by them).

good points docjames. I also read posts by FlyerJangaroo about "instant buy-up" and can see that my booking was also not showing any of these options (if available) or even the bid for upgrade option. I accepted the current changes and have a feeling there may be more.
