I recently joined AClub in the hope of getting benefits associated with frequent stays - eg late checkout etc.

Within 1 month I have stayed enough to qualify for silver and wont be to long before gold.

However..........

I have since found out that if you book through a travel agent (we use a corporate travel service) you do not qualify for any points (see 7.4.4 in the terms and conditions).

I find this ridiculous!! I was looking for accor hotels wherever i was going - now i wont - so they've lost one customer!

Is there any hotel loyalty program in australia that is worth joining and is compatible with using a travel agent for bookings??

I've had no issues with Hilton, Hyatt, Rydges, Marriott.

All of my bookings (and I stay almost exclusively in Accor properties) are made (but not paid for) through Corp TA, and I receive a|club points every time. I've only had to chase two bookings where points did not post.

Yes i think this is the problem - in my case the travel agent pays the hotel and we pay the agent.

As i understand it, it does not matter who makes the booking only who pays for it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

because i have been negotiating with aclub membership to get the points and they are the ones saying i dont qualify.

Apparently the hotel sends the details to Aclub membership and they decide if you are entitled.

besides we have a new agent who is eager to please and trying to make it work.......

On a similiar thread, I pointed out, that A-Club told me, that any card holder who does not pay their own accommodation charge, will not receive any points.

Yet, when I joined A-Club upon checking in at a Mercure Hotel, the staff stated, that it doesn't matter if your employer pays the accommodation charge, the card holder still gets the points.

So, different stories.... depends who is telling it.

Thats what every hotel has told me also - but so far my points balance is 0.........

I think the hotels just send the details to aclub who decide if you get the points.

Further on my ' adventures ' with A-Club.....

Brief background:

Booked on line, via Advantage Plus website, for 2 night stay at Novotel Rockford at Darling Harbour. Paid on ckeck out, via private credit card ( my wife's actually ). No incidentals, basic accommodation charge only ( a package deal with a few 'extras' ) Made a very specific point about past difficulty with A-Club points.....

Over two months later, and 3 emails, and two phone calls, still no A-Club points from this stay.

I asked the hotel for another invoice to be emailed, so I could attach it to A-Club's webpage for ' missing points '. Hotel sent me an EXCEL sheet, that not only had my booking, but a ' conference ' booking, made via the Pacific Spirit travel agency. The A-Club page wouldn't accept EXCEL, only select types of format can be uploaded. So, I had to fax it.

A-Club sent me a message back, stating that, no points to be paid out on
' Travel Agency ' bookings etc. etc.

I sent another email, making a point of A-Club's lack of initiative, by not calling the hotel to confirm the situation.

With complete amazment, I got the points in 48 hours !!!

As a side issue, due to the change of currency rates ??? In Australia, we don't get one point per $AU...... I got a different rate for this transaction, than I did for points ( that I also battled for ) in January.

My account came to $338. I got 309 A-Club points. ( plus the Platinum bonus of 100% = 618 points all up )

regards,
GORDO
