Accor Plus Membership Discussion

I noticed the Accor Plus FAQs got updated with a question about when will the 20 nights upon renewal be credited: "The Status Nights bonus will be reflected in your account within a month of your effective joining or renewing Accor Plus membership subscription date."

May or may not be an issue for those who have renewal dates during December, since in theory the crediting might not occur until the January (new calendar year)

Plenty of times. Yes, you can do this. I'm not sure if it will end up being cheaper than a room with breakfast included - it would definitely depend on how many adults, and in cases like red hot rooms it's rare to have breakfast included, so if you can compare like for like and if you know the breakfast rate you could work out the delta and if it's cheaper.
Thanks Mate. Good to know the benefit can be used for breakfast.

Hi, all,
I've got some newbie questions about this.

1) I read that by taking out this membership, along with the the benefits from last year (such as Silver status and a free night), you also get given 20 Status Nights. Does this mean that to reach gold, you only need to stay 10 nights instead of the regular 30?

2) I assume that each eligible night stayed counts as a Status Night (please correct me if I'm wrong). With this in mind, how does a Status Night differ from a Status Point? Also, I'm a little confused as to how Status Points differ to Rewards Points.

I get how points and status credits work with airlines but here there's a third reward that's being earnt.

Yes

You can move up through the tiers with either status points or status nights, whichever comes first. Some will attain Silver, Gold or Platinum by staying a lot of nights whilst others may stay far fewer nights but spend a lot more each visit so will move up a tier with status points. For example to reach Platinum it is 60 status nights OR 14,000 status points (roughly $9500). Diamond however can only be reached with status points not status nights.

Status points are what moves you up the tiers.
Reward points are points that can be used to pay for rooms and can be sent to frequent flyer programs etc

Has anyone been an Accor Plus member directly, and then renewed via the Amex Plat card? My renewal is coming up in Nov so contemplating using the Amex plat as it includes lounge access for an upcoming trip (plus I’d use the travel credit and the Amazon prime credit).

Just wondering if Accor can manage that, or if it would be a massive stuff around.

It should be fine but I feel like it'd be a cleaner transition if you let your Accor Plus membership lapse first, then apply for the benefit through Amex.

Yeah definitely would. I was kinda hoping to sign up before renewal so I could make use of the lounge access for an upcoming trip

Thank you very much for your prompt response @jase05; much appreciated.

So, the way I've understood your response is that that Rewards Points are like airline points/miles whereas either Status Points or Status Nights are like airline status credits - either one can work depending on your situation - just two different forms of status.
So, you can't use Status Points for upgrades or to be transferred, they're solely to indicate your status progression; correct?

One more thing, I read that the way Accor's year works is the same as the calendar year and not your membership year. If this is the case, I would therefore get more use out of it starting at the beginning of the year?

Does anyone know if the Swissotel Nankai Osaka has an executive lounge? It's not listed here, but there are a couple of reviews that mention it - assuming then it's just not accessible for Platinum members?

Answer to Q1 is yes, and see here for that: https://www.swissotel.com/hotels/nankai-osaka/executive-lounge/swiss-executive-club-lounge/
Unsure on Q2; but their Fb page refers to it in a few posts as being an 'exclusive perk of staying in Swiss Executive Rooms and Suites'. You could ping them via Fb or at their listed e-mail: osaka[at]swissotel.com

Cheers
Matt.

Just FYI on the dates of crediting for the 20 bonus nights promo. I got my initial bonus 20 nights credited on 2 August. My renewal date was 31 August, and the annual 20 night bonus for renewal was credited today (6 Sep).

Hmm, I renewed on 2 August ( my renewal date was 31 August) I had to email them late August as no 20 bonus nights. Got 20 bonus nights at the end of August. But have not received the other 20 bonus nights.
I emailed them again yesterday quoting their email. Hopefully I will get a positive response.
Thank you for your update @bits and @Daver6

Have the same 31/8 renewal date, I did receive the bonus 20 nights for this year, but they don’t show up in my account, but I can see that the 20 nights did count towards my total nights this year (99). I have renewed plus membership the 20th, but have not seen the additional 20 nights. As I’ve already requalified for Diamond, the nights don’t matter anyway.

On mine both 20 night deposits are listed in the the nights transaction history as "Earn ACCOR PLUS - Bonus Status Nights, +20" on the relevant dates

When is generally the best time to ask for a late check out? At check-in, the night before, early morning on check out day, or at normal check out time?

In my experience I usually ask on check-in. When they haven't been able to accommodate or not able to offer as late as requested, the staff have often suggested I can also ask again either night before/on morning of check out and they see what they can do.

I ask as soon as I know it will be needed. So if I know at check-in, that's when I'll ask. Sometimes I'll be told to check the day prior.
