Which Accor hotel in Wellington New Zealand is the best to stay in

We stayed at the Novotel earlier this year and it was fine; good location, nice clean rooms. My only problem was I could only get wifi in the bathroom, but I think that was my phone having problems.

A bit late perhaps... but the Sofitel Wellington is an option, again, after it's recent re-opening. It had opened mid 2016, but there was a fire in the restaurant in December and they had to close for renovations for another 10 months or so! Terrible luck... but looks a nice place.

Thoughts on Sofitel vs Movenpick in Wellington?

I’ve noted the reviews from @DJTravels here and @sudoer here and I’m still sitting on the fence.

Leisure trip, 3 night stay between Christmas and new year for 2 adults 1 child.

Movenpick is 2 king rooms using the 50% off second room $820 flex.

Sofitel is Queen plus rollaway $895 prepaid.

Thoughts please?

At those prices I'd go the Movenpick.

The Sofitel is nice, but the rooms aren't massive and would be even tighter with a rollaway. The location is better suited to gov & business travellers and is less ideal for leisure (especially over Christmas, that end of the city will be dead)

I haven't stayed at the Movenpick but I think the location would be much better for leisure - walkable to Cuba St / Te Aro, where the best restaurants, bars and breweries are in Wellington (IMO)

Movenpick for the extra room for sure. Not sure how theyll fit a rollaway in the room at the Sofitel. It felt snug enough to me. If youre visiting for leisure, the movenpick location is not bad!

I stayed at both last week with my 11 year old. Movenpick was great and she loved chocolate hour with the chocolate fountain. Location wise it’s up on a hill so if you are on foot there’s a fair bit of walking. But quite close to Cuba Street.
Sofitel closer to the main CBD area. We got upgraded to a luxury room which would’ve had plenty of room for a rollaway bed. If you have club access it’s very nice for afternoon tea with the family, but evening drinks and canapes are adults only. It’s quite a small space so you have to get in early if you want a seat. Movenpick has a small pool. No pool at Sofitel. Restaurant food was nice in both places and staff at Sofitel went above and beyond to give my fussy daughter something she liked. With Club access I would probably prefer Sofitel for that experience. Without probably the Movenpick. But both were pretty good.

I think it depends on the room config, I got a corner luxury room which had quite an inefficient layout.

Sofitel is a bit of a walk to Cuba St but there is a great cafe a block away under the office (just up from beehive) for breaky. Its also a short walk to the Paekākā Soundshell in the botanic gardens which has free concerts every night in January.
