Accor Gift Cards with Plus rate

I’ve always been tempted to purchase Accor gift cards in Woolies when they have special offers although the T&C’s clearly say you can’t use them for Accor Plus rates.

I’ve heard some people have had success using the Accor Gift Cards with Plus rates, what’s your experience trying to use either successful or not, and any tips?
