Surely staying in less rewarding properties only makes sense if you are using the status nights from Signature to chase Platinum.For sure, burning points means opportunity cost in earned ALL and QF points.
So usually 1,000 status points would be minimum €400 spend and even more if staying at the lower tier properties, wouldn’t it?
I think even if its not a clear cash flow positive program it used to be, it still makes Platinum
and Diamond much easier than real spending - especially if you use Mantra, Peppers and Ibis for some of your stays.
Since of course Diamond can only be earned with status points. Nights are irrelevant.
Why settle for 10 or even 12.5 status points per 10 euros when you could earn 25?
I haven't stayed in a single lower earning property since I started worrying about status.
I see it as wasted money and a lost opportunity.
