Deborah1,

Welcome to AFF.

Could you be a little more specific when you say 'near to everything' :?:

Personally, other than an airport hotel there is nowhere that I would stay as Miami is not exactly a wonderful place.

I would go further down south toward the Keys or up north toward Boca Raton or West Palm Beach.

I would agree with Straitman in that Miami isn't exactly the most appealing city.

I can't comment so much on a hotel that's close to everything but I can thoroughly recommend the Conrad. It's been a bit over two years since I stayed there but it is an impeccable hotel.

W Southbeach might be worth checking out?

We stayed at the Four Points Sheraton because we booked late and there wasn't anything else available. I don't really recommend it. It's a taxi ride from all the action (Southbeach) and it's pretty typical of most Four Points - quite run-down. Right on Miami Beach which was good.

Actually we had lunch at the Marriott right down the end of South Beach and that looked decent - great location too. Might be worth a look.

Cheers,
- Martin.

PS: Agree with everyone else that Miami is a bit of a dump (think Surfers' Paradise and you're pretty much on the money), but it's worth checking out at least once.

I doubt there is anything "near to everything" because Miami is quite spread out.

If you are going on a cruise, stay near Port of Miami where there are lots of hotels (easily googled). Bayside Marketplace is ok for something to do.

If you are flying on to the Caribbean or South America then stay near the airport.

South Beach is lively but run down. There is a big gay scene and party drug scene there which was not to my personal taste especially on a Sunday at 8.30am when I wanted to take a stroll down the beach. I would not stay in South Beach again.

If I absolutely had to stay in Miami again I would probably choose something in the Coconut Grove/Coral Gables area where there are some good restaurants, shopping malls and a few tourist attractions. But Miami is a long way down my list of places to revisit.

Try the Seaview Hotel in Bal Harbour. I stayed there in September last year. There is an upscale shopping centre with restaurants nearby, it's right on the beach and ther are other hotels around for a variety of dining and drinking options. Great bus service runs down to South Miami Beach. The restaurant and bar at the Seaview are great and while it is not too expensive it is at least 4.5 if not 5 *. Have a look on www.seaview-hotel.com
