Accommodation Barcelona August 2014

Fellow AFF members, I am looking for recommendations on accommodationin Barcelona, we are overnight after a cruise. Ideally a property that has had greatreviews from a recent AFF stay. Regards Polly1.

polly we have stayed at Hotel Arts last 2 years - it's right on the water at Port Olympic - walking distance to multitudes of restaurants - perfect for short stay - it is a quality hotel.

Polly, you haven't indicated how many stars you want your hotel to have or how much you're prepared to pay so clarifying these criteria would make it easier to make recommendations. FWIW we stayed at the Hotel America 4 months ago and I think it was rated 4 star - well located, nice helpful people etc and its Tripadvisor reviews were very good, but it wouldn't suit you if you want 5 star with the luxury trappings. It ticks all the boxes for people who primarily want somewhere comfortable to sleep with a very clean bathroom and expect to spend most of their time seeing the city rather than staying in their room. This hotel was close to the action but not right in the middle of it (we prefer to avoid the noise of boozed up Spaniards and tourists singing and shouting below our window at 4am on their way home) - about a 20 minute brisk walk from the waterfront and just west of Placa de Catalunya (near La Rambla) so restaurants were everywhere nearby.

We liked Murmuri Luxury boutique hotel city center - Murmuri Barcelona - Official Website but I guess since it's only one night a hotel closer to the port may be the preferable.

Many thanks to my fellow AFF associates, I will be having a verygood look at the recommendations posted thus far. A bit more detail a 3-4 starproperty is ideal, not looking for too many extras breakfast and Wi-Fi would behelpful. It really is about a strong positive recent recommendation. Staying inBarcelona for a night in August probably will be expensive, and having never Barcelonanot sure of rates around that time. Again my thanks Polly1

For central location on Las Ramblas then the Le Meridien Barcelona is a good option though a bit on the pricey side of things. I had a great stay there a few years back where I was upgraded to the Presidential Suite

For closer to the Port, I guess the W Barcelona is a cool funky hotel with a great bar that overlooks the waters. Oh and for the men's, the urinals at their bar have a floor to ceiling windows and thus 180 degree panaroma too

Otherwise for good value and if one is just overnighting, I like to stay at the one of the H10 hotels (either the Catalunya Plaza or the Univesitat) [as it has very easy access to the airport bus].

Endorse the earlier Casa Campa rec and stayed 3 nights last July. Fun quirky hotel with handy location yet still very quiet. Can suggest a very good vegetarian restaurant nearby if that way inclined.

While probably not appropriate for 1-night, back in 2010 we booked for a few through Barcelona Apartments | Apartments in Barcelona | Barcelona Accommodation and this particular apartment was the one we took, adjacent to the Sagrada Familia. Awesome location. Nice to see it's still listed.

This time last year Mrs B and I spent two nights at Barcelona Sants which is situated above the main train station.

We found this perfect as we caught the train from the airport, got off at Barcelona and walked about 60 seconds to our hotel. Then when you want to go somewhere else by train like we did, you are "right there" so it is handy for travel around Barcelona and beyond (we also went to Valencia).

The hotel was quite inexpensive and luxurious, included a fabulous breakfast and we also had some great views over the city from our room.
We would certainly stay there again and don't hesitate telling others about it. And no, you can't hear the trains.
