hi all,

i have been watching and reading the boards for some time now and am grateful for all of the information and sharing that takes place. i have picked up alot of great information and had many a laugh at some of the posts.

at this point i am chasing some info.

in january i am flying with my wife from bne to akl for a short break. we are going with emirates. i do all my flying with qantas and am a platinum ff. i always access the lounge when travelling internationally with qantas.

as a platinum am i able to access the international lounge even though i am flying with another airline in this case.

cheers and beers :)

For the record, I should probably expand on my answer.

As Platinum QFF, you can access the QF lounge at any time - QC or First lounge.

However, this is level of access is for QF lounges only - not Oneworld lounges. To access a OW lounge you must have an onward flight with a OW airline on that day.

For example, if you are in Hong Kong and flying British Airways to London, you can access the Cathay First Class lounge (or BA first lounge, but CX is better) - regardless of which class you are flying.

(This might not be the best example because there is a QF lounge in HKG and you can access this at any time, but I'm sure you get my drift  )

I find this annoying at times when you are departing from an airport where there are OW lounges but a OW airline does not service the route you are flying. For example, I am doing some flying with Air Canada in a few weeks and can't access a lounge. OW airlines have lounges at the airports but I can't access them as the sectors I am flying only have Air Canada as an option.

Although you will be entitled to access the QF lounges as a Platinum, you will not get boarding calls for the EK flights, unless EK use the QF lounges for their premium classes. If flying in J or F, I would be using the lounges provided by EK.

In AKL the EK lounge is okay. Better food & drink than the QP but also more "enclosed" being downstairs without windows.

But what are the EK lounge access requirements? I assume they need to be flying J or F, or hold status with the EK FF scheme. If these requirements are not met, then the Qantas Club lounge is available for a QF FF Platinum member to use.
