ACCC approves interim authorisation QF/EK

Should be interesting to see what changes we get hit with over the next few days re benefits and timetable changes, whilst I dont care much for longhaul to Europe, I am interested to see what effects are on the Asian routes.

This will finally be the real test for us all. Will we get deluged with all the information we expect (we may not like all of the answers we get).

Personally what I want to see are:

- Award flights on EK metal to all EK destinations (specifically I only want DXB-LCA-DXB)
- Consistent lounge access commensurate with the access I currently get - i.e. WP in F lounges at DXB

Will hopefuly be brilliant for my main want from this alliance - travel to north and west Africa. One stop to Casablanca or Accra and hopefully on QF codeshare.

Markis10 .. interested to know what you are after re Asian routes. I think EK tie-up shouldn't impact much on Asian travel behaviour ex Australia (unless India, more easily accessible from Dubai)?

very interested to see when we will start getting news on this!

Asia is a priority according to AJ, with the connections to Europe now not an issue I am hoping flights might be retimed, I know I am dreaming to think a day flight ex Asia might eventuate, but I am allowed to dream :), I hate overnight flights and reluctantly booked two this week as the price was right, ironically including the last A380 service out of SIN.

I wonder if this means QF will change my QF5 booking in April to route me via DBX with the second leg on EK. That would be a pain, but I've been half-expecting it as QF advised when I booked that QF5/6 flights to/from FRA after 31 March are subject to change, and they have said separately over the past few months that from April "all flights to Europe" will go via DBX, yet they continue to sell flights for QF5/6 via SIN.

QF have already changed two flights of my trip, I hope they don't change this one as it will stuff up my connections...

Wasn't there a release stating that QF are extending the FRA route until later on in the year?

Yes, its continuing until Oct from memory at least.

Correct, but there was also a disclaimer that flights after 31 March were subject to change (but I hope they don't)

Hopefully they can change my Sin-Lhr to Sin-Dxb-Lhr...

Looking forward to lounge access right.

We've got a QF6 flight (SIN-SYD) early April, didn't see any wording/note regarding subject to change. TBH, I would be happy to be shifted to QF52.

Aren't they more likely to put you on BA? Wouldn't that be better than an extra flight flight DXB?

It was a FASA, so would rather connect for more SC and at least I get to try F on EK on the Sin-Dxb. At the moment they have put me on BA but I dont really want to fly on BA.

My wish list is QF SCs on EK metal to all EK destinations at the same price as if I booked through EK direct (no QF code-share price inflation), and WP access to EK F lounges.

Otherwise I will be looking at OW options instead.

Press release from QF:

About Qantas - Media Room - Media Releases - Qantas welcomes interim authorisation for Emirates partnership

Most interesting for me:

“This decision means we can determine pricing, capacity and scheduling with Emirates, in addition to the more logistical aspects of the partnership that we have been working through already,” said Mr Joyce

The bold bit says to me that things like SCs, lounge access etc have all been determined.

Looking forward to Red Roo's new thread on this in the next few days...

Ha. I just got an e-mail from Emirates (via my Skywards membership). I though 'gee, they are quick of the mark; Qantas has only just got its media release on its web site'.

But no, just an unrelated spruik. These are scheduled days or weeks in advance of course.

By the unbolded bits in simongr's quote, sounds like it'll be a while before we get solid info on the guts of the matter.
