Hi all, I have booked flight AC34 (SYD- YVR) next month & on a separate ticket, AC34 (same flight number) on to Toronto the same day (2 hour+ layover in Vancouver). Do I need to collect baggage & pass through immigration on arrival in Vancouver?...... or can I book checked baggage through to Toronto from Sydney & pass immigration there?

I don't know about the luggage, but you will clear CIQ at Vancouver. Last time I went through there (5 years ago or so), AC were just starting a process where connecting passengers onto AC domestic did not need to collect luggage - provided it was checked through of course. Whether that still is happening, others may know,

Yes my baggage was checked through in November when I flew BNE-YVR-YUL

My understanding is you do not have to collect bags and recheck at YVR if both tickets are issued by AC even though you have 2 tickets.
But they have to be issued by AC meaning the tickets have 014 as the first 2 digits on the ticket serial number.
That the flight number is the same for both flights is irrelevant but the good news is that both flights are usually operated by the same aircraft.
