Hi, can anyone tell me from experience if the AAA discounts offered in the USA can be accessed using an Australian Automobile Association Club membership card? (NRMA, RAC, RACV, RACT, RAA, RACQ or AANT)

This page on the AAA site indicates they are, but my club says the opposite

Most AAA prices seem to be higher than regular discounted prices but I have found 1 or 2 where this would be useful.

Yes I have used my RACV card think the number is 310 for reference and called the RACV who gave me that number but it is also in very small print on the back of your card. From memory though I don't think I have been asked to show it apart from Waikele Shopping Outlets in Hawaii for the discount book

I've used it in the US without dramas, and no one has ever asked to see the card (though I do have it on me).

Thanks for the quick replies :)

We use this extensively.Only occasionally knocked back-but only in Florida. We then email the firm asking why and always told they should have given the discount.

Just recently used my in USA at two locations. Neither time was I asked to present the RACV card but have a couple of times in the past.

Yes, I used my RAC card in the States a few weeks ago. It has the AAA symbol on the back.

I wasn't asked to show it at all in any hotels in LA, Vegas, San Francisco or in between.

I did visit the AAA club office in Burbank and asked for some maps. They asked me to show my card and were very confused when they saw it, but as soon as I pointed out the AAA symbol on the back the guy loaded us up with half a dozen great maps, plus destination guides and a bag to hold this mountain of stuff in, all for free.
Absolutely worthwhile.

Hi - just come back from a month in the US and I used this several times and once (in the back blocks of Utah) was asked to show the card but no other time - I used a few search engines to get comparable prices and this seemed a genuine discount

I got a few hotel discounts by showing it.
More interested IF they would come to fix the car...luckily didn't need it.

I am members of both AAA and RAC. AAA are really good if you decide to plan a road trip. The discounts are good either way.
My last hire car did not have a spare tyre so AAA for their breakdown service is mainly why I have it.
RAC is 397 for WA card holders.

Steady- you can join RACWA as an affiliate member only for around $29 or so, IIRC.

I have left it a bit late to join RACWA as an affiliate member as I fly out today. I will report back on how I go with my RACT card at the Zoo

Saved US$250 on a helicopter ride using RACQ in Vegas. Haven't bothered using for hotels as I've always been able to book a better or same rate without it.
