For what it is worth the T & C's say that it must be AAA or CAA to get that rate and RACV does not qualify even though it has reciprocals etc.

I have recently booked Tullamarine (not asked to produce card), New York ( not asked to produce card), Philadelphia(queried by reception,I pointed to AAA logo on back of RACV card and it was accepted with RACV number allocated. Next stop Washington DC for 2 nights and see how I go. Obviously they are not real concerned if the heads come in the door !!!:)

It's more your AAA/CAA[/RACV/...] "Show your Card and Save" rate.

The logo is on the back of your RACV card.

Hi Serfty, that's how I got the discount but when you read the terms and conditions it specifically says it must be AAA and CAA and the program does not apply ..?.
Once could state that AAA grants reciprocity to RACV/RACQ/NRMA/... - hence the

(AAA) logo on the back.

In reality, they are indeed not "real concerned if the heads come in the door" and very few Hotel desk clerks even bother to check or verify one's right to an AAA rate and if they did, with the AAA symbol on the back of the card, you would generally be fine to go (as you discovered).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Ihave had the card checked twice - once at HOTP (first stay) and in Brighton.

I only joined AAA in the last couple of years as we spend more time in the US now. AAA has the breakdown service, the trip planning help and the shopping and hotel/ holiday discounts.
If you are only in the US for a couple of weeks just run with the back of your RAC card for hotel discounts I would think.

Interestingly, basic breakdown service is reciprocal as well if visiting for 90 days or less. So your RACV, NRMA et al should work just as well in Nevada as they would in QLD.

Welcome AAA Affiliates

I note that further down the last page I linked to, PC hotels are not listed - so it could very well be that ICH are not officially a party to SYCAS but have a separate deal with AAA.

The last time I scored a flat tyre on a freeway we continued to an off ramp and changed the tyre in a safe spot ourselves. There is no way I would stop on the 405/5 freeway to fix a flat tyre in California.
I have graduated from "Rentawreck " to Argus so the cars are more reliable out of their trawling site than 30 years ago.
AAA trip planning can be very helpful for that bucket list idea of driving around America for a couple of months in an unlimited mileage hire car to see the Red Woods, Cape Canaveral, the Sierras, the Grand Canyon, Elvis Presley's home and lots in between.
I take your point Serfty that I could have just stayed with RACWA but I wanted more from AAA than in previous years.

I have been asked for my card at HIX Causeway Bay in Hong Kong. I can't recall being asked other times. Was not asked at HI on Flinders in Melbourne last week.

Considering the RAC WA is happy for associates to join for around $30, and this qualifies for the discount while also giving you cheaper woolies gift cards, it's a bit of a no brainer not to be a member somewhere even if you don't have a card.
