For the date i want to travel a one way fare is US$123 in Y v $254 in J.

I am trying to think is this "worth" the difference (I know this is obviously subjective)

The plane is a 738. Thoughts on business class on this plane with AA? The flight is just over 2 hours.

As a QF Platinum i would have luggage included if i booked in Y.

Thanks in advance from those who have flown domestic AA much more than I have.

For a 2 hour flight personally would not pay the difference. Do you have Qantas Club if so that will get you into the admirals club or you should be able to access flagship lounge with your OWE status too.

Is the Y in the back, or 'Main Cabin Extra' ?

I definitely wouldn't be bothering with J for that trip - as QF Plat you will get Admiral's Club access and you'll be in boarding group 2 (which is enforced), so one of the first 15 or so to board, so no problem with space in overhead lockers.

Main Cabin Extra might be worthwhile for the extra legroom and forward position if priced well, but don't take a bulkhead (as I did recently), as there is no extra leg room  .

What the SC earn and do you need the extra SCs?

For the small difference J is probably worth it. Same as domestic QF J v QF Y in terms of seating.

As a OW status member you can purchase MCE seats for half price, might be worth it as an option.

@Mel_Traveller you do make me think it is worth it! Reading the AA web site, it looks like Main Cabin Extra is complimentary for Sapphire and Emerald One World members. I might just do this, given the luggage will be included given status as well.

Ah yes. Apologies. OW ruby can purchase MCE for half price. My bad. (But still a good deal for OWRs!)

If you can score MCE and have all the other benefits anyway you might as well save a hundred bucks.
