Hi all.
MEL-JFK-ORD-JFK-MEL coming up. AA for the US domestic flights. I have joined AAdvantage.
Can I earn AA points with these flights (the flight number is QFxx_x on my ticket) as well as or instead of QF??
Also for J flights JFK-ORD and back is there a domestic business lounge at the two airports?
Never been to the US mainland...
thanks

Ugh!

Business class QF flight numbers while travelling an an AA First Class cabin. Never done that personally and unlikely to ever do so!

With a QF flight number on the AA flights in Business class you have at least two choices for fligts between ORD and JFK.

Credit to QF and earn (as a PS): ~1100 QFF points and 60 SC's each way.

Credit to AA and earn: ~850 RDM and 1100 EQM.

Sorry..don't follow? My understanding has been that it's like flying JAL, the J seats are up the front but nothing much else different from Y? Please expand?
I assume it's best to keep building up QF for now.

ORD/JFK booked on an AA flight number in the same seat would earn 90 SC's is it's "First Class".

Domestically, AA only have three class cabins (F/J/Y) on some transcontinental flights using 777 and 762 aircraft.

QF on the 2 class domestic flights book into J/D/I, AA flight numbers book into F or A.

As far as service goes, "Adult" beverages and meals¹ are complimentary in First. In economy they are for purchase.

As a QP member you will get Admiral's Club access at both ORD and JFK.

¹ Meals depend on the timing of you flight.

Very few AA domestic sectors have a J cabin and certainly not JFK-ORD.They have Y and F.
If crediting the domestic AA sectors to QF it is best to have the AA flight number as then you would get F SCs.
Flying the premium cabin in the US does not get you lounge access unless connecting to or from an international sector.
To maximise SCs it would be better to do-MEL-LAX-DFW-LGA-ORD-LGA-DFW-LAX-MEL.
Doing that on QF to lax and AA on the other sectors would earn 1020 SCs and put you within reach of WP.
PS Serfty beat me to it and I didn't notice the QC in your profile so yes lounge access.

Due to contract work at that time, it is impossible to leave a day early and I had to get the tightest flights possible. The domestic flights are QF3163 and 3164. So I guess my follow-up question is whether there is anything I can do about it now; can I "choose" the AA number when crediting to get more points?

And Drron, how do you actually do this? Do you book a multi-city fare and just add the connections? Can you specifiy an AA code at that time?? And my goodness how much would that cost? QF J to ORD is already pretty pricey - I'm paying for about half the flight but half of "my half" was done with points, I had quite a few.

EDIT: I assume the domestic flights are two-class as I was able to select the front row (I didn't though)

I would have booked a Circle Pacific so MEL-SYD-LAX-DFW-LGA-ORD-LGA-DFW-LAX-NRT-SYD-MEL would come in just under 26000 miles and cheaper than the MEL-ORD return on QF J
And that would earn 1200 SCs-enough to requalify WP and just 200 short of initial qualification. No good for tight business trips though.

That's hilarious. It would cost me a lot more than the saving on the J fare though! Not to mention having to apologise to my wife..
Maybe next year when I go to Washington.

this depends entirely on the change and flight application rules for the specific fare type you have purchased. Some fares are flexible with changing to a different carrier's flight number and some are not. Some will have a change fee and some may not. So you will need to check with the fare rules for the fare you have purchased.
