Hi,

Thanks to changing some YUPPs last year, I have a voucher from AA for about USD400. I cannot use it online, only by the call centre or in an AA ticketing office. What I presume is the US call centre number is listed.

Has anyone had any experience using one of these with the AA Aus call centre? I want to use it for some upcoming LAX-ATL-LAX flights. I am anticipating it will be a painful experience given it's a paper voucher and in USD ... hope to be proven wrong!

Are there any restrictions? I had one for $600 USD and when i tried to use it for domestic US legs, they said it had to be in conjunction with an int'l leg on AA! Needless to say i never used it.

Are there any restrictions?

The voucher itself states "Restrictions apply to use of vouchers. See attached terms and conditions for applicable restrictions."

I can find no attached T&Cs to refer to. The backs of the pages with the voucher are the usual old school ticket backs, referencing carrier liability for international passengers and incorporated terms on contract. The original flights that were changed were booked on AA.com and all fully domestic US flights (SEA-ORD-DFW-LAX or something like that changed to SEA-DFW-HOU-//HOU-DFW-LAX).

Mine was compensation for a cancelled flight, so a bit different. Good luck, fingers crossed. Let us know how it goes.

I wouldn't recommend ringing the AUS call centre. If you use Gmail (or a few other services) it's a free call to the US. Whatever you do don't let them refer you back to Australia for any additional charges you need to pay by CC (there's a fee of $A80).

I finally called the US call centre today. My hesitation was that I haven't tried to call a US 1800 number in years, and last time I tried to call one it wasn't possible from overseas.

Anyway, the viucher was issued on 10 Oct 2012 and states that it is valid for 1 year from date of issue. I changed a SEA-ORD-LAX flight to SEA-DFW-HOU (couldn't add HOU-DFW-LAX)., and after the $150 change fee, had about $400 difference remaining in my favour.
I made an online reservation yesterday, and held it. Called today to apply the voucher towards the reservation.
First, the agent cannot find any record of it, either by my CC, the two "001" numbers on the voucher, the original travel date, the orignal PNR (would that even still be valid after flying it??), or my name.
She ends up talking to some supervisors or something.
They find some details. I am told:
* The voucher actually expires today (umm, it's nowhere near 9 Oct 2013!!)
* The voucher was already used when the flights were changed (umm, no, this is the difference from a changed flight which should have been refunded to my CC anyway).

I have been given a customer service number to call; I didn't manage to call them today.

Has anyone had an experience like this with AA? I've changed other flights with them online, and had the fare difference (minus change fees) refunded to my CC, so I'm really stumped why the voucher was issued in the first place.

Is there an email I can use? I can scan the voucher, original recepit, changed itinerary receipt to show where the $400 came from.

Have managed to use the coupon, but it needs to be sent to Florida before the flights (on 5 May) are ticketed.
And since I held a res on Thurs & had to re-do one today, the price has gone up by $300.
Note: cannot use a non-US address for CCs over the phone. I did not try El Segundo. Used US work address with work card.

I still don't understand why my credit card wasn't refunded for the original change.
