AA to fly BNE to DFW [confirmed]

“American will offer the first-ever service between DFW and BNE starting in October”

I have an old QF 747-400ER boarding pass that begs to differ! Between BNE and DFW, yes.

So looks like full NW season and it is daily. Assuming a late night departure from DFW and early morning arrival in BNE, a mid morning return journey would get to DFW mid morning, opening up a lot of options for connections.

My guess is that BNE-DFW it's a NW24/25 seasonal. Perhaps mid November in line with the University finish/exam dates, and a mid February finish (in line with O-Week). That's about a 12-13 week season to cover for Uni, Tafe/College and School Students/Family/VFR crowd going to anywhere other the West Coast of USA (and ditto for the reverse, assuming AAIF money is applied with Queensland promoting Tourism to the non-West Coast Americans).
Interesting AA has gone for daily for the full NW season. Would assume it's timed for connections in DFW (mid morning/lunch departure ex-BNE).

Flight 8 could not be flown non-stop and flew from Dallas to Brisbane Airport before returning to Sydney.[15] Flights 7 & 8 were operated with a Boeing 747-400ER aircraft from 2011 until 28 September 2014.

ORD would be a good destination from Australia. QF was going to start BNE-ORD, but due to CV19 did not start.

Will be interesting to see how this is timed. DFW flagship is normally heaving with Aussies when the MEL and SYD flights arrive and depart.

Ex-Per, the Syd option generally works for same day connections eg. 5am departure for PER-SYD-DFW-XYZ allowing a very long day but the ability to go straight to bed at your ultimate destination. MEL however, leaving a bit earlier, needs an overnight or the red eye. I think I'd still be inclined to go via SYD for the F lounge but if the BNE timings are good it could be an option.

Well as I said I think this is all about QF & AA countering UA's expansion, and getting in after UA retreated a little is a smart move.

ET are saying it will arrive around 0830 in DFW (QF7 arrives at 1455, QF21 at 1245) which means you can get to New York (LGA) 3 minutes before QF3 gets to JFK - and you don't have to deal with immigration or the long commute to Manhattan. Or you can get to places like Miami or Cancun by mid afternoon.

I hope Qantas retime the Brisbane to LA flight a departure at 10:00pm with arrival in LA at 5:45pm doesn’t allow much on traffic to places up and down the west coast or anything even slightly east like Denver, Phoenix, anywhere in Texas. It needs to come forward at least 3 hours so it gives some connection options and then driving to your destination while its still light, as now that AA starting DFW no chance of a 2nd flight ex Brisbane on QF.

This is a good new route for the AA/QF alliance, I wonder after the taxpayer money dries up if it has developed enough to stand alone.

Based on the expected arrival in dfw of 0830, you’d expect a departure maybe 1000 from BNE. So you’d need to catch the red eye from Perth to connect to this, and spend a good few hours at BNE.

Edit: ET indicates 1000 departure from BNE

This is a good new route for the AA/QF alliance Joint Venture,

Semantics, but just in case someone wants to say AA is trying to compete with QF, it's a revenue sharing metal neutral JV - more than just an alliance like QF/EK etc.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

American Airlines adds Brisbane port - its longest distance flight

American Airlines’ vice president of international operations Jose Freig said they were “super excited” about the seasonal service which would take off from Brisbane at 10am and land in Dallas-Fort Worth at 8.34am the same day (due to the 16-hour time difference).

“With this new route, our customers in Brisbane will have access to our largest US hub from where they can connect to explore much-loved destinations around the world; from sunny Miami, to the deep south in Rio de Janeiro and beyond,” Mr Freig said.

The new 787-9 would be configured with 51 “privacy” suites in business class, 21 more than American Airlines’ current format in that aircraft.

The Queensland government dipped into its $200m attracting aviation fund to help entice American Airlines to Brisbane, but would not reveal how much was paid.

I had reward seats on BNE-ORD in 2020 .... fingers crossed this bring reasonable award availability to QLDers!

Not that we will spend a cent in Texas that we can avoid. But happy to transit there.

MEL-AKL-ORD (replacing the pre-Covid BNE-ORD) has been stumped up as options before.
The existing QF flights via AKL to USA is only due to the range of (current) aircraft.
Air NZ fly AKL-ORD on stop. Would make no sense for QF to compete head to head.
BNE-ORD (range limited) by QF make more sense. SYD-ORD too far current aircraft.

A good point, however BNE is no longer a 787 base since post-COVID. Unlikely QF will be sending a 787 through there for the sole ORD in the medium term, with the obvious exception of Premier Miles/Queensland Government approaching QF with the taxpayer funded AAIF cash, in a "Rob Paul to Pay Peter" situation. Queensland has done that before with the Tokyo-Haneda flights by "taking away" the initially intended daily MEL-HND by funding x3 weekly BNE-HND.

At the same time the AAIF cash being applied on a hypothetical QF BNE-ORD may get taxpayers arguing that said cash could probably be better used towards replacing the pair of A330s on BNE-LAX, also in the name of "Premium Tourism For Queensland".

More details (from ET) - tickets on sale Monday.

The American Airlines flight will depart Dallas Forth Worth at 10:35pm to reach Brisbane at 6:30am two days later; the return leg will be wheels-up from Brisbane at 10am, arriving back at DFW at 8.20am.

However, American Airlines advises that “DFW-BNE roundtrip schedules will operate at different times on Tuesdays and Saturdays (departing DFW) for the full season due to operational requirements. The schedule may also vary from month-to-month (TBD).”

Tickets are expected to go on sale on Monday February 5.
