Has it been my imagination, do the Y aa seats offer slightly more leg room, seat size and space between yourself and the next seat?
 
During the MRTC 'More Room Throughout Coach' time - absolutely at around 35"

Think AA is now back to 31-32" throughout which is the same as QF.
That said I believe the AA seat padding is less than QF which may give perception of more room

I only had 3 flights in WHY on AA, one was American Connection/Trans States, back in August and I did not notice any difference. I remember the red-eye LAX-IAD on a 737 was comfortable and I was able to sleep for most of the journey. It still feels cramped for room when the person in front reclines....
