Apart from that there must also be some demand for ex-AU traffic to the US as well, perhaps in the lead up to Thanksgiving and Xmas.

Anecdotally there are quite a few hiding out in AU from the turmoil in the US for as long as their visas last or until WFH ends with their employer (via internet transpac) and some will have to leave before end of year.

There is also a smallish cohort of students that will finish their studies or 12 month exchange program and be returning.

Surely the 777 “upgrade” is an upgrade of Cargo capacity rather than seat requirement. A bet hedge that the early days will be light for pax.

I must presume that you're referring to the Queensland election, of course, not the Yank silliness.
Of even more importance is the State of Origin, of course, which starts on the 4th of November, my daughter's birthday, so of course Queensland will win.

Actually the US government is directly subsiding the flying unlike the Aust government. Also the QF pilots are about to see 180 days without flying which triggers a very large catch up 3 to 4 months each of ground school, simulator sessions and supervised flying. This will be a very big problem to get everything flying again.

AA73 is capped to an average of 40 pax per flight. It's not 40 on each flight which is annoying!

I doubt the US will sort out its COVID issues by then. Wonder how they'll be allowed to bring more than the set cap in that soon.
