Hi all – thanks for your amazing knowledge – if I’d been reading this regularly for the last couple of years I’m sure I’d still be Platinum.

My question is regarding AA – I’ve got 90000 AA points and about 350,000 QFF points – I want to get back from the US in September but so far can only find Y classic reward seats or exorbitant JASA so thinking about doing CX PE which seems good value. Does AA have other reward flights that are not on their booking engine eg CX that I could ring and use.

Is there any way I can use the AA points that will get me Qantas status credits. Also – is there a way that I can transfer AA points to Qantas points – I did read something about transferring AA to Priority Awards and then converting them to QFF – is that correct and is there good value in that?

Looking forward to some feedback

Cheers

Hi, yes you can book CX flights on AA but it has to be done over the phone. Research the flight numbers and dates you want before calling and have some alternate dates and flights just in case. This will make it much easier for you to get a flight.

I'm sure some of our other great minds will be able to advise you re the other matters.

Remember that AAdvantage miles can be redeemed with more than just OneWorld airlines. You may be able to find business class awards with partners like Air Pacific. But you will need to make a phone call to AAAdvantage to check availability.

I don't know if you can book a milesAAver or AAnytime award on CX PE.. I recently enquired about booking a QF PE flight with my AA miles and it can't be done because the AA booking engine only recognises 3 classes of service (Y, J, F).

Is there any way I can use the AA points that will get me Qantas status credits. Also – is there a way that I can transfer AA points to Qantas points – I did read something about transferring AA to Priority Awards and then converting them to QFF – is that correct and is there good value in that?

Unfortunately, the answer is no to those questions.

I've read about some anecdotal reports of booking an AAnytime award (which books into a full fare bucket) and linking your QFF number which ultimately ends up crediting to QFF, but those are an exception to the rule and most probably a glitch in the system.

My question would be why would you want to "convert" your AA miles to QFF points?

Yeah, when you go on the AA website and look at redeeming miles it will list all the airlines that you can use AA miles with (including non-OW airlines), someone just did an F redemption on Eithad which looked pretty good using AA miles... Is there a way you could go the long way around and come back via Europe??? I would tend to use the 350k QFF points on OW awards 140k in Y, 280K in J but you might want to use them on JASA's/FASA's to earn SCs to get you status... We're all different...

I think from reading what people are saying its pretty hard to use the AA miles to get premium cabins from the US back to Oz as AA offers seats from 330 days or so out while QF offer them like 353 days out or so, and so many of them are snapped up before AA gets to see and offer them... This is not so much the case if you come back via Europe...

Because I want to try and maintain SG - QF comped me to retain SG last year when I only had 415 SC - doubt they will do it again

Status credits are pretty cheap to earn over in the US, have you thought of doing a status run while your over there???

You can look up FJ availability on QFF and there is also the possibility of connection in HNL with HA. Give the AAdvantage US number a call and they can look at it for you. An outside chance would be form LAX tp Oz via PPT/AKL.
