oc7,

Welcome to AFF!

Pretty much everything you need to know is in this thread:

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/discus/viewtopic.php?t=1446

There are a couple of "resident" experts who should be able to answer any further questions you have, but that guide is very comprehensive.

The quickest summary I can give for AA Plat Challenge is that it is a fast-track offer to status with American Airlines. As a partner of Qantas through OneWorld, status with AA gives you benefits when flying Qantas. Their frequent flyer system is also a lot more generous so you get better rewards for less flying than if you were in Qantas Frequent Flyer.

thanks for the reply mal...

after readinf the link i am still a little lost??

for eg.. if i were to fly SYD- LAX in buisness class with qantas and then onto europe with fin air in buisness class and come home via asia with qantas in buisness class.. how many points would i recieve ? and what status would that translate to ??

i noticed that there was a clause relating to discount flights.. i i were to pick up a flight on bestflights.com.au would it still be able to earn me miles ???

thnks..

The number of miles earned will be dependent on the precise route

Considering a routing of SYD-LAX-LHR-HEL-LHR-SIN-SYD in business class, the total distance is 25918 miles

As far as the platinum challenge goes, the SYD-LAX flight would complete the challenge and you would attain AA Platinum Status ( which equates to Oneworld Sapphire and is equivalent to QF Gold status ) and so would have lounge access/business check in et al on future trips in economy

Given that you wil be platinum, the approximate miles earned would be 25918 + 100% platinum bonus +25% business class bonus , so you would earn approx 58,316 miles

Discount earnings restrictions relate primarily to economy class travel so a paid business class ticket from bestflights will almost certainly earn FF miles

Does AA Plat status entitle bringing a guest into any oneworld business lounge when both have same day forward travel on oneworld airlines?

A OW Sapphire ( such as AA Platinum ) may take a guest in. Some airlines (such as BA) do specify that the guest must be travelling on the same flight
